Just to set the record straight. On September 25th, I watched a mantid producing an egg case, and I wondered about the shape of it. There are egg cases in two different shapes, which can be found in our meadow.
The egg case on top is probably the Chinese mantid, and the lower one the European mantid. Both were imported as biological control measures. Feel free to help yourself to any of these oothera. The mower will destroy many, but we will have no shortage of mantids next year.

Fences at Foulkeways
There are many "living fences" at Foulkeways, but today I have pictured some of the non-living fences.
Such as the fence behind the barn, which shields from view some of the maintenance vehicles, and such.
Then there is this tidy white fence behind Gwynedd House.
This same fence invites you to explore the Gwynedd courtyard.
The fence at the tennis courts keeps the tennis balls from going astray.
There is a long privacy fence behind the Abington West apartments.
Right across the road is another fence.
Another wooden fence leads you from the picnic area.
Here I photographed two fences - a large privacy fence between patios.
A more diminutive fence is found at P and R, but the heating units they were meant to screen no longer exist. Hurrah for geo-thermal!
The fence for the dog park.
A rose peeking through the fence.
There are other fences, such as the one at the Post Office gardens, but you have already seen that, if you have been following my blog.

Thursday to Saturday
On Thursday
There were many trucks and much activity at the Beaumont House
The blacktopping was going down.
There were mounds of dirt everywhere.
By Saturday
The blacktop was in place.
The corner enlarged.
Another view of the blacktop.
New walking paths are prepared.
The front is newly graded.
This was the last marsh mallow in the wetland, photographed on Thursday before the frost.

Fruits and Nuts
Osage orange. Whoops! Someone called my attention to the fact that this is not an osage orange. It is a hardy orange, which has smaller and more orange fruit and much longer thorns!
Rose hips
Acorn
Yew
Winterberry
Hickory nut
Red chokeberry
Crabapple

What's New?
Up at the Beaumont House the curbs were installed.
Shutters on the house.
This is the front of the house today.
The carriage house.
Tree signs for the 50 trees project.
Here is the sugar maple.
Another tree sign.
The black gum tree.
Another tree sign. Just how many trees does that 50 tree project involve?

Reconstruction Beginning and End
Even the floor is dug up for new hookups.
These photos of the apartment reconstruction were sent to me by the resident of a reconstructed one bedroom apartment.
The spaciousness is immediately evident.
Yet it retains its intimate setting.
The kitchens feature granite countertops.
These countertops are also in the bathroom.
Expansive windows in the bedroom add to the charm.
