Gingerbread Houses

Each year at this time we are treated to the creation of fabulous gingerbread houses made by the staff and their families and put on display in the Community Center lobby.
Such creativity!
Not all are made by the dining room and kitchen staff.
I wonder how many candies were consumed during construction.
So colorful!
And Snoopy too!
Originality!
Singing "O Christmas Tree".
This is the last photo, but go see more for yourself.
Then go all the way back in the lobby to see the train!

Second Story Snow

This morning I was working on the second floor of Abington House while it was snowing, and as I do not often view the snow from this angle I naturally had to take some photos.
This is a view toward Gwynedd House.
Winter picnic anyone?
Now you know these are all color shots.
Interesting angles.
Library window makes an interesting frame.
A spot of red.
Bare branches.
Now, no more snow is forecast for a week!

Beautiful brown leaves

As I started out on my walk today, I noticed these three leaves in the road and thought how attractive they were.
These leaves may be pretty, but leaves on the wooden bridges can be slippery.
Beech leaves still cling to the twigs.
Leaves surround some lichen which fell with a piece of tree bark.
Many leaves line the walkway.
An oak leaf on moss.

Another Bird Blind

At Gwynedd Preserve, a Natural Lands Trust Preserve, there is now a new bird blind.
This is a very basic bird blind.
Inside there is a sturdy bench, a shelf, and openings to watch the birds.
There are some basic bird feeders, but I did not see any birds.
The day was overcast and hinted of the storm to come, but the birds were not feeding.

November Surprise

Last night we had snow.  And it was still there this morning.  Is this Fall or Winter?
Many found their cars covered in snow.
Even the Penn-Gwyn bridge had snow.
It was pretty to look at with the Fall color and Winter snow.
Beautiful, but too early.
Just a touch of red at "B".
Perimeter Road looks chilly, and it was.
All the roofs had snow this morning.

Honey and Robbins return

Here it is! - The Foulkeways honey being poured into jars, and then labels put on the jars.  It will be ready for sale in the Gift Box on Friday.  No limit to the amount you can buy.
We returned to Robbins Park after lunch on this beautiful day, to check out Creepy Pond and other areas.  It is amazing how close you are to the houses.
The beech leaves were beautiful.
The beech woods are so attractive.
This is a view of the Wissahickon Creek and Route 309 in the background.  Should read North Rose Valley Creek, see comment below, a tributary of the Wissahickon Creek.
Even the canopy was photogenic.

November Color

The colors of November may be muted, but they are still very attractive.
The color stands out amid the bare trees.
In the afternoon the color may be glowing.
The white fence shows off the orange tree.
Some leaves are still red.
This must be a magnificent view from inside these apartments.
There are still many red berries.
The colors of the goldfinch are muted at this time, but he is still beautiful, and you can see why I leave dead flowers in my garden for him to forage on.
