Morning Wanderings

Here are some iris and chives blooming in the Post Office Gardens.
A water lily in the pond on the way to Fitness.
Another water lily and some fish.
A rather tattered mourning cloak butterfly.  This one over-winters as an adult.
A splendid poppy blooming in the wetland.
This female common whitetail was spotted in the meadow, while all the males were cruising in the wetland.
The foxglove beardtongue (Penstamon digitalis) is starting to bloom in the meadow.
The common fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus) is in the far meadow.
The yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is just stating to bloom.

CONSTRUCTION

There is an abundance of construction going on the upper reaches of the Foulkeways campus.  All related to the transformation of the Beaumont House.
Work is being done on the house.
Lots of orange fencing.
Holes and digging.

Pipes and cement pipe holders (term?)
Destruction for construction
This is a big job!

Late in May

So beautiful!  This yellow iris in the Japanese garden.
Just as beautiful was this yellow iris in the wetland.
Also in the Wetland was Mrs. Mallard.
Up in the meadow was this black swallowtail on the golden Alexanders.
A Peck's skipper on the daisies.
I can see that you haven't picked any of these flowers.
A deer on Perimeter Road at noontime.

Birds and Butterflies

This song sparrow was singing away from the top of the box that the tree swallows now call home.
But the tree swallow did not consider this little guy a threat at all.
There are a new pair of mallards in our wetland, at least I think it is a new pair.
While on the Loop Trail, something orange caught my eye, and it turned out to be a comma butterfly  Looks like an overwintering one, as it is rather tattered.
Then there were two, but this time it was two Zabulon skippers, both males.
The bluebirds are busy feeding the young.
It looks like they feed without even going inside.  The babies must be getting big.

Playdate

A playdate in the dog park.
There was plenty of action.
My but you are big!
Ears flapping and tails wagging.
Hello there!  A good time was had by all, including one dog that never left the confines of the lap.

Here and There

There is some indoor office construction going on with our own crew doing the work.
What a cheery sight!
Another view of our daisy meadow.
That's a Peck's skipper on the ox-eye.
The male tree swallow sits on the fence and sings, while his mate is working hard at building a nest.  I haven't seen her yet.
Under the bridge I saw one snake,
and then another.

Meadow

Most people prefer the front meadow with the ox-eye daisies, and while it is nice to look at, I prefer to look further.
In the back meadow I saw the mother bluebird gathering food to feed her young.
Here are the bright yellow blooms of the golden alexanders.
The purple of the trandescantia, which was very attractive to many insects.
This skipper was attracted, but flew off before I could get a good photo.
There are dame's rocket blooming on the edge of the woods.
In the wetland I saw several common whitetail dragonflies.
