Magnolia and More

This is a beautiful magnolia found behind "J".
This one between "P" and "R".
A magnolia with a bee.
An iris from the Greenhouse garden.
A magnificent catalpa blooming in "V".
A butterfly that can be seen for only a brief time is this little wood nymph.  I have not been seeing many butterflies.
Let's hear it for the ladies!  A female eastern pondhawk.
A female twelve-spotted skimmer.
Here are three males - all on the same perch in the wetlands.  Above is the twelve-spotted skimmer, in the middle is the white-tailed skimmer, and on the bottom is a blue dasher.

Some new, some old

New for this year, the common milkweed is now blooming.
The first butterfly weed is also in bloom.  Has anyone seen a Monarch butterfly?
I did see this azure plant an egg on my New Jersey Tea.  Too bad we don't have more of these host plants at Foulkeways.
The yarrow is beginning to bloom in the meadow and wetland.
We often see the song sparrow singing, but this one was panting with the heat.

I've seen it before, but enjoy seeing again, this Halloween pennant.
If you wait the frog chorus will sing for you down at the wetlands.
A first for the season was this twelve-spotted skimmer dragonfly.

It's June!

The male common whitetails continue to patrol the wetlands.  I liked the way the green is reflected on his wing.
Today I saw this female common whitetail laying her eggs.
If you wait long enough the frog chorus can be heard.
Yesterday I saw this pile of weeded cattails.  Someone has been working hard down there.
The penstamon digitalis is blooming in the meadow.
A butterfly that was hard to identify.  It is a pale female, and an eastern tailed-blue.  Can you see the tail?
A Halloween pennant dragonfly.
A Peck's skipper on a daisy.
A mated pair of Peck's.
Crossline skipper.
And from yesterday this bluebird headed for the hole in the box, with what looks like a big juicy grub.
