Crow's Nest

On Thursday a group of birders took off for Crow's Nest Preserve, which is a Natural Lands Trust Preserve in Elverson, PA., about one a quarter hour drive from Foulkeways.  We went in search of the red-headed woodpecker.
This is the kind of day it was - overcast, cloudy, limited visibility, but not cold.
We started looking here near French Creek, where the red-headed woodpeckers gather the pin oak acorns from the neighbor's trees.  Nothing.  We then walked into the woods.
The pressure is on for Dan Barringer, the preserve manager, to produce the bird.
Finally we come to this unlikely spot, and some one spots the bird!
Not a great photo because of the weather, but an exciting find just the same.
We even saw an immature bird.  But I have to go again on a sunny day to try to get some nicer photos.
The day ended with a wonderful lunch at the bakery in St. Peter's Village.
